Beneficiaries List 2019

The Dragon Sale Committee is delighted to announce that the 2019 Sale has raised an astonishing £206,000. This is a true testament to the entire Dragon School.  The day perfectly reflected the generous, industrious, and committed philanthropic spirit of our school, with over 70 stalls and 240 volunteers. We should all feel immensely proud.

The Sale wishes to thank everyone involved for making this such a success; pupils and staff, stallholders, donors and supportive parents.

The money raised has enabled our school community to give meaningful donations to over 120 charities supporting children and families as well as supporting a Day Bursary.

This year we also decided to give specific support to local, national and international charities supplying food provision to those who with desperate need given the current crisis.

SOFEA locally here in Oxford who were supplying over 2500 food parcels a week throughout the first lockdown.

Magic Breakfast who prior to the pandemic fed 48,000 children every day, this number has increased by 35% in the passed year.

Marys Meals who, working with governments, community leaders and trusted partners, have developed new methods of distribution to reach over 1 Million children in their communities and provide food to them at home, until it is safe for them to return to the classroom.

Food poverty is one of the many tragic results of the on-going pandemic.

In the UK:

Despite the success of the Marcus Rashford's campaign to get free school meals to be delivered in the holidays, still 1.7 million children will continue to miss out on the benefits of free school meals and the 'healthy start’ support because the qualifying income criteria are currently set far too low. (Currently you can only receive free school meals if your family’s income is below £7400 per year after tax and before benefits).  (ref: Food Foundation).

The Trussell Trust’s new analysis forecasts a 61% increase in food parcels neeeded across its UK network in October to December – six parcels given out every minute.

During the start of the pandemic around half of people who used a food bank had never needed one before. Families with children have been hardest hit

An additional 6.7 million children are likely to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2020 (ref The Lancet).

Nearly 600 million children in low and middle income countries (LMICS) completely missed out on financial support from their governments since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even before the outbreak, over 1 billion children in LMICS lived in multidimensional poverty, deprived of access to eduction, health, housing, nutrition, sanitation or water. Since the Coronavirus outbreak, this number increased by 150 million children, bringing the total to 1.2 billion.   (source: A foundation to end Child poverty_Universal Child Benefits Report.
